The Day Ms Sweetie & I Rescued Each Other.
It was a few days past the July 4th holidays of 2010 on a Wednesday Night I just got home from visiting my sister.
It was dark and I was standing on the passenger side of my car with the door open getting a few things out of that side of the car.
When all at once, I felt something rub up against my leg. It was dark and couldn’t see clear enough to see what it was. At first I thought it was my big cat Mickey. But when I peered closer I could see white boots. I said to myself it couldn’t be my cat Tuxedo Kitty Ms Pepper. For she has white boots too.
So I walked into the light of my Yard Light where I could see what it was and lo and behold there was a black and white 3 month old Labrador puppy laying at my feet.
She could hardly walk and I knew right off hand that this puppy needed help.
She had been lost in these woods for the biggest part of her life and was trying to survive on anything she could put in her belly.
She followed me to the house but was not able to get up the 2 steps to get on the porch to get into the house. I helped her up the two steps and opened the door.
She crawled into the house and went straight into the kitchen where I have a very large pan of dog food for the Little Guy and Ms Lea.
This poor little puppy was so happy to see food she simply laid on the floor and rolled in that dish of dog food.
Once I had her in the house and was able to give her a better inspection what I found was so shocking. She was nothing but skin and bones. Starving to death. She was infested with fleas, ticks and ear mites and I was sure full of worms too.
The poor girl could not even shake her head. When I touched her ears she yipped in pain. Where the ear mites were so bad in her ears and where she was trying to scratch hear ears she clawed and scratched and cut them up badly inside. The cuts had scabbed over where the ears had lost their elasticity.
Noticing that I took a big gob up Ointment and simply gobed it in both ears.
I picked her up and laid her in my bed to sleep so I could console and comfort her.
By the next morning I was able to lift her ears and to my surprise she not only had mites really bad in her ears but full of ticks as well.
I was able to pull 4 ticks out of her left ear and one was a female tick that had sucked so much blood it was the size of an ear plug. It was huge. Then I was able to pull 3 ticks out of her right.
I had to get her to the Vets for emergency treatment for the rest. The Vet was able to get down in her ears a little deeper and pulled one more out of the left and 2 more out of the right. She was so emaciated I didn’t know if she would even make it through the night. I had to lift up and lay her in the seat of the Jeep just to get her to the vets.
The poor girl was so full of worms as well.
So we had the Vet treat her for all these issues and conditions that was ailing her.
The girl could hardly walk. Her hips were very weak and could not even get up steps.
It took months working with this dog getting her restored back to health.
She was such a sweet loving dog that I ended up naming her Sweetie.
Within a years time Sweetie was able to run, jump and play how any young dog should be able to.
Today, I thank YAHUAH I have had the privilege to have Ms Sweetie in our life nearly 13 years now. She loves her family dearly and keep a sharp look out for her Little Guy and the rest of the Tribe 😉
When the dogs are out taking care of their business Ms Sweetie will stay outside keeping a sharp eye out on her Little Guy and others and when they ready to come in that is when Ms Sweetie will come in to.
She loves her cats and the cats love their dogs. Especially Sweetie. Ms Sweetie was giving a mothers heart and she mothers every one she feels is part of of litter. She makes sure everyone has clean faces and clean ears. When we go to bed at night the cats, especially Bobby and Jackie has to greet Sweetie with attending rubbing and making over their mommy dog. When I let Sweetie out Bobby and Jackie lights up and go running to be with their Sweetie and follow her around in the yard. She keeps a watchful eye on her family and home and loves to lay either in the yard with the cats or on the front pouch step with the cats.
Sweetie has made a most excellent guard dog and looks after all of her family including her cats.
Sweetie is about 15 years old now. That’s equivalent to 105+ dog years.
Now you know the rest of the story regarding Ms Sweetie & I.
Shalom!
